As the school year comes to a close seniors fully focus on the path they want to take in life. Whether it’s going to college, learning a trade, or jumping straight into the workforce now is the time for them to commit to their chosen tracks. A handful of seniors took a trip to Dallas College Garland Center to enroll for classes and complete a “final checklist” to get them ready for the transition from high school to college.
After doing a tour of the building and taking a peek at some shop classes everyone got to sit down, have some lunch, and talk about what they were planning to pursue at the college.
“I’m actually not sure yet but I’m gonna figure that out soon though,” senior Mathew Mosley said.
Some don’t have any idea what they are going to do compared to others who have already set themselves into motion.
“I’m going for engineering and welding,” senior Jacorey Brooks said. “I already have my welding certification.”
Regardless of the path, everyone could feel reality settling in as the threshold between childhood and adulthood increased with each step around the building. From excitement to fear, every emotion rises to the surface.
“I feel good, mostly nervous because I feel like I’m probably not gonna be as good as I think I am,” Jacorey said.
As we get closer to the end of the school year these decisions become ever more pressing and permanent. Touring one of the seven Dallas Colleges was truly interesting to see a small snippet of college life and for many on the trip, it was a good opportunity and experience. With this trip hopefully, some seniors were able to see their futures and what they want a little more clearly with this wonderful outing.
