Back to school means implementing the phone policy launched in January of 2024. This policy was designed to prevent distractions and boost focus in the classroom.
Students are required to place their phones inside the “cell phone jail” or in their backpacks, which are kept at the front of the classroom, far from their desks.
This rule sparked mixed reactions among students. Some thought this approach was ineffective and could put students at risk during dangerous situations.
“Kids should at least be able to have it on them,” senior Adam Leverett said. “Or at least be able to have it on their desk face down.”
Other students support the phone policy as it helps them stay focused in class. School data shows concentration, grades, and attention span has improved because of this protocol.
“I think it has helped me gain a lot more focus in class,” senior Bella Valencia said. “I would definitely enforce it. I know I personally have done better without my phone.”
Whether it’s celebrated or criticized, the phone policy is undeniably rebuilding classrooms. By reducing distractions, it encourages students to engage more deeply with their education though it remains a hot topic among the school community.
