Everyone takes part in kicking into the busy schedule of beginning of the year activities. But others go above and beyond for school, hours and hours of out of class practice, helping make the school Mighty. Because what would a school be without a band?
The Mighty Eagle Band is a force to be reckoned with, and for reasons deserved. They spend weekends and after school time perfecting their marching show for football games and competitions. Yet despite contributing so much to the school spirit, most don’t know what it’s like to be in marching band, and the sacrifices they make .
“We spend a lot of time doing the same thing over and over again, it helps us become a better group,” senior Ryan Perez
Halftime performances are a main focus for the band during the marching season, flooding the group onto the field to capture the crowd’s ears. But behind the stoic expressions of those uniform marchers, what are they really thinking on that turf?
“It’s definitely an experience, I remember my first game, my heart beat with adrenaline, It was such a surreal event,” Perez said.
With such a busy schedule, it’s impossible not to miss other school or life activities.
“It’s about sacrifices, we have to make sacrifices this year. I don’t have any resentment towards it and I’m open to skipping my last Homecoming to compete,” Perez said.
