Over the Summer of 2024, nine RHS students traveled abroad to Germany through the German American Partnership Program. This organization partners with our sister city of Donaueschingen, Germany and provides students with the opportunity to participate in this adventure.
GAPP Sponsor Ms. Dawes shares why she is passionate about the program.
“I love being able to see the different students that come in and then meet up with the other students from Germany,” she said.
Everyone on the trip bonded over the unique experiences, visiting different places and trying new things.
“I really liked the Cathedral we saw in Olm. It was just so big,” sophomore Liesl Blair said.
Students can look forward to a reliable schedule with some new activities as well.
“One of my favorite places I didn’t get to go to this last time was Heidelberg. I definitely want to make sure I get to go there next time,” Dawes said.
Part of the fun of GAPP is meeting the new faces who are interested in traveling to Germany.
“I’d just like to experience the places we’re going,” freshman Corbin Walters said.
At the same time, some of the students who went on the 2024 trip are planning to return when RHS travels in the summer of 2026.
“I miss everything so much. I’ll just be driving around and end up thinking about the ice cream. And the bread,” Blair said.
Traveling abroad is a unique and transformative experience.
“When I went to Europe when I was in high school, I came back a different person,” Dawes said. “It changed my perspective on the world, and to be able to take students over there and let them have those light bulb moments is amazing.”
