There’s a mechanic hum in the air as the sound of metallic gears revolve repeatedly. Outside her kitchen window, senior Yadira Hernandez sees a blazing starlight contrasting with the dark 5 a.m. sky.
It’s not an ordinary thing to say you believe in aliens and it’s definitely not normal to come across one flying right above the roof of your house.
People find the idea of the supernatural existing fascinating despite their fear and wariness. The most common forms of mysterious anomalies that people witness are aliens and ghosts.
“I had to be like 8 years old, and my brothers woke me up. Basically, they told me ‘hey, you have to come see this look, look, look,’” Hernandez said. “I remember this memory very vividly.”
Whether it’s a creak in the floorboard or a light flickering in the hallway, supernatural activities are strange encounters that test the line between real and fiction.
“It’s more plausible to believe that there’s more life out there than there isn’t in the entire universe,” junior Daniel Delgado said.
Most paranormal activities are regarded as negative phenomena, but some people simply see them as harmless events.
“I don’t think we’ve been affected by [aliens] yet, and I don’t think that’s ever going to change,” junior Zoe Munoz said.
There’s no scientific evidence to prove that ghosts or aliens are real, but personal experiences and beliefs provide explanations for why people encounter an odd, paranormal presence at some moments.
“[Supernatural activity] just gives people a chance to believe in something that hasn’t been figured out yet by science,” Munoz said.
The thought of seeing an alien intrigues people who question if they are fake or not. While some claim that they are funny green figures with big eyes, others believe the contradiction is much more simple.
“I think [aliens will] try to blend in as much as possible to not be compromised, so I think they just look like normal humans,” Delgado said.
When asked, students agree that if aliens were to visit the Earth, they would look eerily similar to normal human beings.
“Hopefully they stay hidden, I don’t want to see any of that,” Hernandez said. “They’ll try to look like us, like shape shifters.”
The idea that these mysterious creatures could invade the Earth at any moment interests people.
“I think [aliens] would be bad in the sense that they would want to take our resources, but they’re not thinking ‘I want to hurt humans,’” Delgado said.
Evil or not, aliens and ghosts play a significant role in peoples’ entertainment due to their abnormal, psychological plot.
“When I was growing up I watched Ghost Hunters and all of that, and I think it’s just interesting to watch,” Munoz said.
