The city of Rowlett hosted a winter Holiday Parade on Saturday, December 6. Many fine art and athletic groups at RHS attended, participating in the parade with the aim to boost school spirit, share their pride, and have fun.
Students say they felt glad they could be part of a bigger piece in the parade.
“It was fun to be there, to be part of something,” junior Abigail Castaneda said.
Among the participants was the Iron Eagles, who brought 9 members, including senior Jacky Mena-Echegaray.
“I loved going down and being in unity with everyone,” Mena said. “It was just such a fun experience to be with my Iron Eagles and everyone.”
Bringing the music, the band came to accompany the other participants with stand tunes and songs. However, senior drum major Gerardo Hernandez felt some things were missing.
“I would have liked to play more music,” Hernandez said. “[Like more stand tunes, because all we do is play “Fly Like an Eagle” and the Fight Song, and I’m like, ‘that’s lame,’ I want more ‘boom boom boom,’ you know?”
Even the audience felt the spirit.
“I felt very prideful about my school because it was good to see all the representation from the different clubs and all their school spirit,” junior Ellie Cummings said.
Overall, the parade was a way to show off the school’s students, pride, and unity.
“It just made us so much more tight knit,” Mena said. “It gave #LettNation, #WeROne, #Spiritof96, #GoodBetterBest.”
