As the two student sections filled up, the anticipation rose among students. Eagles against Mustangs, the biggest game of the season was about to begin. The question was who was going to take home the Hammerle trophy tonight.
With previous victories against the Raiders, Patriots, and Pirates, the Eagles were eager to be on the podium. Our last district game, which is against Sachse, ultimately determines who takes second place in the district. As the players prepare for kick off, the crowd in the stands show their support.
“There was more students, so it was way louder and it motivated us to play harder to win,” junior Xavier Baele said.
Having a mass amount of people show up for each school, the stands were packed with school pride. One side dressed in full black, the other white.
“It was exciting and nerve-wracking having all those people there and watching it,” junior Clayton Pitman said.
They show their team support as the crowd watches, intensifying every play on the field.
“It was a huge atmosphere. Our student section felt alive,” junior Bre’Sean Clewis said.
As the crowd connected with the game and observed what was happening on the field, a cloud of encouragement encompassed the stadium.
“The energy just encourages you to perform your best,” sophomore Elisa Zuniga Rivas said.
Rowlett having the upper hand the whole game shows how aggressive and determined the Eagles were to win.
“It felt good, we could really control the ball and the field when we did,” senior Armando Sexton said.
As the timer ticked to zero and the final whistle was blown, the Eagles had a victorious win, bringing home the Hammerly Trophy back to where it belongs. Not only did the Eagles score a victory against our rival, but they won on Senior Night.
“This victory means a lot to me because not only was it senior night, but I was really hoping for us to win and we did end up winning, so that felt very special to me as a senior,” senior Karla Marriago said.
The most memorable night of the year for many students, Senior Night ended in a triumph.
“Being able to walk like that was a really good feeling. Being able to see everyone through the years from freshman to junior year, and then finally being able to do it senior year, I think that was one of my favorite moments,” senior Sierra Odhiambo said.
Seniors had a touching and emotional farewell to high school football as they left Senior Night.
“During the last performance, it was bittersweet. It was more sweet than bitter though because it brought back all the times I was on the field performing,” Mariaggo said.”
For some it’s the end of the chapter, but for others it’s just the beginning. Past or present, senior night is cherished by all.
“I definitely see myself continuing [step],” senior Addsion Baele said. “This is just the start of my story for stepping. I want to drag it on.”
